Reading Revelation from Poverty
Recently we were reading through the last few chapters of Revelation in a Destino Bible Study. In one section it mentions there will be no need for light in heaven because the Lamb will be our light. One of our students remarked, “No more light bills”. That thought had never occurred to me because paying the light bill is never a problem. I grew up in a middle-class family and never worried about the electricity being shut off.
While somewhat intended as a joke, the remark illustrates the context that many of our Destino students are coming from. We need to be a movement that allows everyone to be a part, especially those who come from poverty.
